Traditional Knitting - Sheila McGregor
A history and facts about traditional knitting techniques.
There is nothing so new as an old knitting pattern, as Sheila McGregor shows early on in the book with an illustration of Egyptian knitted socks from about AD1100; the brilliant patterns would not be out of place in high street shops today! With the welcome revival today of traditional knitting, these photographs bring together in the most colourful and interesting way some of the key influences in folk knitting from around the world. There are Scandinavian sweaters and Afghan socks as well as a large number of traditional items from the British Isles-from Shetland and Fair Isle to the Aran islands and the North Yorkshire Dales. Sheila McGregor has written a fascinating commentary on the photos themselves and on the traditions of the different styles of knitting.
The front cover of the book shows a medley of patterns and the back shows an Eriskay gansie.
