A Second Resource Book for Machine Knitters
Garment patterns . international designs . history of knitted fashion.
A Second Resource Book for Machine Knitters follows its predecessor 'A Resource Book for Machine Knitters' in aiming to stimulate and encourage machine knitting as an art-craft form and to promote its acceptance as an independent area for study and practice. The history of knitted fashion in this book belongs alongside the history of knitting and the knitting machine in 'A Resource Book for Machine Knitters', for no craft can have a separate identity until it has its origins explained and its position in our culture defined.
A new approach to garment pattern presentation has been attempted. The written patterns are translations in words of the quarter size blocks provided for charting device owners. More garments and articles developing from these and other blocks have been published in a Resource Book Pattern Supplement in May 1983.
There are sections on the mastery over the machine and on creative design as well as a large international punchcard and stitch pattern section. The book is well illustrated with diagrams, sketches and with black and white photographs, some of which have been contributed by machine knitters in Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the USA as well as by machine knitters in the UK.
